What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning? For me there are usually tasks to do, duties to fulfil or places to go. What about the motivation for you to live on in general? Paul gives us an excellent one-liner to remind us of the only motivation that matters: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (I Corinthians 10: 31).

God is the only true God, to whom all glory is due. He will not share his glory with others, as he said to Gideon: “The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me’” (Judges 7:2; ESV). Whatever we do, if we do not do it for the glory of God, we will not receive God’s help.

The glory of God is powerful indeed, transforming us into the likeness of Christ (II Corinthians 3: 20). Christ is the radiance of God’s glory (Hebrews 1:3).

As we are going on with our lives, let our desire to glorify God guide our ways. When God is glorified, his help will be abundant, and we will be able to achieve whatever we set out to do.
